Today's idea: Chewed Stick Paintbrushes!
Today's activity idea comes from The Organic Artist for Kids! Are you ready to get started? Here we go!

Step 1: Head outside and get to know your trees. We will be looking for some fresh fibrous twigs like river birch, beech, elm, hickory, oak, or maple. Use pruners to snip a twig that is around the length of a pencil and don't forget to thank the tree!
Step 2: Peel off the bark of your twig about 1 from one end by pulling it down with your fingers or whittling it with a peeler or knife.
Step 3: Put the twig in your mouth and let it soften up for a minute. Gently squeeze the top of your stick with your teeth. Loosen up the wood fibers on the outside first and slowly break it up a little at a time. Soon the whole end of the stick will be a loose bundle of wood fibers. Bonus Option: wrap the handle of your paintbrush with yarn or ribbon.
Now you are ready to test out your new paint brushes! Happy painting, friends! We would love to see your paintbrushes and paintings!
